The first step in effective communication is becoming aware of and releasing habitual tensions in the voice and body. Designed for actors, performers and public speakers, this class will introduce the tools for developing a free and open speaking voice. Starting with breath, alignment and movement exercises, we will move into language using Shakespeare’s verse. Whether you are interested in learning how to create a more embodied character onstage or feel more at ease speaking in front of an audience, this course will explore relaxation, presence and inspiration from the inside out. Please bring a notebook or journal and come prepared to move with loose comfortable clothing. For teens and adults

Four sessions - Mondays 7-8:30 pm

Instructor: Karin Trachtenberg

Karin Trachtenberg has over 30 years of experience in the theater as an actor, director, teacher, producer and arts administrator. She holds a masters degree in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University and attended drama school in London. Please let us know about any medical conditions, allergies, medications, or special needs that we should be aware of. In addition – if you are registering for a child – to provide your child with the best experience possible at HCA, it would be very helpful if you let us know the following information: Does your child have an IEP, 504 plan, or require extra or one-to-one assistance at school? Is there anything else that would be helpful for us to know?
Would you like to make a donation to the HCA annual fund to ensure that we can continue to offer free events, and make exceptional arts programs accessible to all?
