The Exhibit: Illustration to Book
This show highlights two of the many steps in the process of making a book - artists’ finished illustrations and the published book, in this case a volume of poetry for children. For An Assortment of Animals: A Children’s Poetry Anthology, created by the writers and artists of The Writers’ Loft, enchanting illustrations executed in such traditional media as watercolor and also entirely in computer software complement the wonderful poems.
Join us for an artists' reception and book signing Saturday, May 18, from 1:30 - 3:00pm. At 2pm, Caldecott Honor award-winning artist, Brian Lies, Kristen Wixted (editor and author), Marty Lapointe-Malchik (author and illustrator), and Joy Nelkin Wieder (author and illustrator) will give brief talks about their passion for drawing and how this marvelous book came together.
The Book (available for purchase at HCA)
An Assortment of Animals: A Children’s Poetry Anthology is an illustrated collection of original poems about animals from New England authors and artists. Undiscovered poets' and illustrators' work sits side by side with never-before-seen work of accomplished authors and artists like Jane Yolen, Brian Lies, and Josh Funk. The anthology takes the reader on a journey from funny to poignant and wistful to thrilling. The animals range from anteater to vulture, the poetry from limerick to free verse, and the art from dreamy watercolor to humorous digital drawing. Published by The Writer’s Loft Press. REVIEWS: Amazon customer says, “This is a lovely collection of work from a group of talented writers and illustrators - but mostly, it's just fun! Great to read aloud with kids, who will certainly find their own favorites - pangolins, albatross, flamingoes - poems and pictures both!”
